Oklahoma Bill Aims To Ban ‘Gender-Affirming’ Care Under Age Of 26

An Oklahoma Senate bill seeks to make it a felony for any Oklahoman under the age of 26 to receive so-called gender-affirming care.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma Republican state Senator David Bullard sponsored Senate Bill 129 to ban healthcare providers from giving hormones or puberty blockers and performing transgender surgeries for individuals under the age of 26.

Should the bill pass, those found guilty of ignoring the law could receive a felony conviction, and healthcare providers could have their medical license revoked due to “unprofessional conduct.”

The bill will also bar medical professionals from referring patients under the age of 26 “to any healthcare professional for gender transition procedures.”

Senator Bullard wrote legislation last year which forced “transgender” students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their birth gender. The bill Bullard introduced Wednesday is named the “Millstone Act of 2023,” in a reference to a Bible passage describing how someone is better off tying a millstone, or large boulder, to their neck and jumping into the sea than putting a child in harm’s way.

In Oklahoma’s house of representatives, a similar bill has also been recently introduced. Introduced in December 2022, House Bill 101 seeks to ban “gender-affirming” carte for those under the age of 21. Medical professionals could face 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine should they administer “gender transition procedures” to those under the age of 21.

In April 2022, National File reported on Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signing a bill which banned nonbinary birth certificates:

“The biological sex designation on a certificate of birth issued under this section shall be either male or female and shall not be nonbinary or any symbol representing a nonbinary designation,” reads a stipulation in the bill.
